Take Action to End the Genocide in Darfur, Sudan

Posted in Social Justice, Peace at 4:43 pm by Freeman Wicklund

During the past three years over 400,000 people have been killed in Darfur, Sudan. Each one of these victims was a precious soul, like you and your family members. In addition, 2.5 million people have been forced from their homes to escape from death and violence. Now these refugees face starvation, disease, and being hunted down, raped, tortured, and murdered.

A few minutes of your time could help end these atrocities.

Take Action:

1. Please speak up for the people of Darfur. Sign this petition to the UN Secretary-General Ban and to President Bush asking them to take immediate action to halt the violence. For more background on the situation in Darfur, read this brief factsheet.

2. Watch the above video to learn the story of one Darfuri woman’s experience. Let her story fuel your fire to take action to end the massacre. You may also view Brian Stidle’s distrubing photos from Darfur. He was a member of the African Union force that sought to monitor the conflict.

3. Get involved with the Save Darfur Coalition. They are an alliance of 170 social justice, humanitarian, and faith-based organizations working to end the violence. They are pressuring the intenational community to:
• Deploy UN peacekeeping forces
• Strengthen the African Union force currently in Sudan
• Increase humanitarian aid and the delivery of food, medicine, and other essentials.

Thanks for being a candle in the darkness and taking action to end this needless tragedy.
